I learnt AutoCAD many many years ago. Here is my own review for tricks and techniques in AutoCAD. And I will keep updating. Mechanical Drafting is fun! Enjoy! When input coordinates for lines.
When extend a object, such as a line. Type extend, and first select the boundary for extension, second select the object to be extend (enlonged). When offset an object, which means an object is to be enlarged or shrinked, then it comes to use offset command, first enter how much offset distance you need, second select the offseted objects. When selecting an object rectangularlly, you should double click the left mouse. When using mline command for multiline, pay attention to the justification. Try three of them to get the desired feature. Tips for selecting box techniques: For something completely in your box, use LEFT-TO-RIGHT, BLUE, box. For something crossing in your box, use RIGHT-TO-LEFT, GREEN, box. When you want to move something, try MOVE. Then select a basepoint as reference. Tips: When selecting things, use L for last created object and P for last selected objects When you want to copy something, try COPY. CO When you want to stretch a line, use S, for STRETCH, then select the basepoint which is the one needs to be stretched. And then type the distance for that point. When you want to do mirror, try MI. When use trim, first select trimmer, and PAY ATTENTION THAT sometime you need to choose two trimmer to get things done! The two trimmer might be not connected! When consider fillet and chamfer, they are rounded and sharp corners. When consider draw something large, use ARRARY -> polar, rectangular, path When want to rotate something, use ROTATE. When you want to do baseline dimension, this is powerful to use baseline command, where first you need to select the base dimension, then you will see how powerful it is in updating dimension one by one. When you want to draw dash line, try to use lt. then select the suitable line type. If dash line is not displaying, try LTS make it 0.0001 or 10000. When you want to display thickness of a line, try LW. When you want to zoom, press Z. When you want to add Shadow, use Hatch pattern. When you want to add one line into OBJECT layer, use Ma command to match the property of the line with the line already in the OBJECT layer. |
